Six days off-road across 450 kilometres of dunes, river delta and Atlantic beach in northeastern Brazil, then four days on the coast.

The route
The route crosses three states.
You fly into São Luís. The expedition starts at Barreirinhas, follows the Atlantic coast through Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, the Parnaíba Delta and the beaches of Piauí and Ceará, and finishes at Praia do Preá. Six days of driving cover 450 kilometres, with overnight stops at Tutóia, Praia do Coqueiro and Praia do Maceió. The route follows the line of the Rally dos Sertões, and the guides are local rally drivers, among them Nielsen, Brazilian enduro champion and winner of the Sertões in 2012.
Maranhão: the dune sea
A full day inside Lençóis Maranhenses National Park: white dunes with freshwater lagoons between them, as far as the horizon goes.
The Parnaíba Delta
River crossings and channels through mangroves form this section of the route.
Piauí: beach running
Wild Atlantic beaches at low tide, hard sand, and the fishing villages that punctuate them.
Ceará: hidden lagoons
Inland dunes, freshwater lagoons and the last off-road day before the coast at Guajiru.
Guajiru: four days off the throttle
The beach base at Guajiru, with a boutique hotel, a pool, warm ocean swimming and a restaurant. You fly home from Fortaleza.

- International flights, around 1 300 €. The recommended connection is TAP through Lisbon, out to São Luís and back from Fortaleza.

After the dunes
The last four days are on the coast.
The expedition ends with four days on the coast at Guajiru, a surf village, with the last nights at the boutique Luáu Hotel before the flight home from Fortaleza. There is a pool, the warm Atlantic, a massage, and a kitchen built around steaks and fresh seafood. Kitesurfing or surfing lessons can be added.
